MEMORY IMPROVING CONCENTRATION AND READING SYSTEM

TOPIC 3
MEMORY IMPROVING CONCENTRATION AND READING SYSTEM

Hello again, Mazel’s here! So this week class is about improving our memories in studies. At the beginning of the class is a little bit hectic because of some technical issues, like the class doors were locked, and attendance sheet gone missing. In spite of all the technical issues, the class with Miss Shamsinar binti Rahma was fun. She teaches on how to improve our memory as a university student.
The first question that’s been asked was;
WHAT DISTRACTING YOU IN THE CLASS?
  • ·         MAINLY CELL PHONE (of course).
Cell phone plays a major role in our daily life because the majority of communication is made in the cell phone, to communicate with others. We all have at least three Whatsapp group to always keep update every time, in case if there’s announcement been made or what not. So in class, for myself, I usually would put my cell phone inside my bag so it wouldn’t distract me with the notifications. I only use my cell phone to snap pictures of notes that I didn’t manage to get.
  • ·         WHEN THE CLASS IS WAY TOO COLD.

Urggh… I guess everyone feels the same way. That moment when you open the door’s class and the breeze that came with it, you can feel it to the BONES! I might even get a cold because it’s way too cold.
  • ·         WHEN YOU TRYING TO TAKE NOTES BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOU TRYING TO LISTEN TO THE LECTURER.

I think this is like a process that I have to get through as a new student to get used to university way of study.
  • ·         SLEEPY

Especially if I have a class at 8 in the morning! Extremely sleepy, also maybe because it’s the Ramadhan month, that’s why I’m a bit sleepy. I also think I have to adjust my sleep time because ever since I started my university interim’s week, I’ve always sleep at 1 a.m.  and woke up at 7 a.m. which for me is not normal. I usually sleep the max at 11p.m. and woke up the next morning at 8 a.m. I know that I’m in a new environment and everything takes time ‘till I adjust myself with the sleep time, I guess.

     A.      UNDERSTANDING MEMORY PROCESS

“KNOWLEDGE COMES WITH LEARNING,
SKILLS COME WITH EXPERIENCE. ATTITUDE NEVER COMES, DEVELOPED…!”

WHY YOU NEED TO LEARN UED?
  • ·         UED subject can be applied to the way we learn.
  • ·         It not only helps you succeed academically, it will also help you do well in life.
  • ·         Without it, you will become overwhelmed and discouraged.

BRAIN
o    The brain is the physical place.
o    Brain is part of the visible, tangible world.

MEMORY
o    Allow us to remember facts and experiences
o    Consists of encoding, storing information, and retrieved, making that information available for recall.
o    When we experience something, it leaves a trace in our brain

WHAT IS LEARNING?
.
·         Learning, unlike memory, is NOT about storing information. BUT, LEARNING IS A BEHAVIOR.
·         Learning is about acquiring information. Memory is about storing it.
·         In a way, you could say that learning is a process and memory is the record of that process.

HOW TO IMPROVE MEMORY WITH GOOD HABITS?
1.      GET ENOUGH SLEEP
-          Without a good night’s sleep, you are not able to remember your dreams the next day.
-          Give about 8-6 hours of sleep a day; R.E.M sleep so that you can remember what you learn during the day and also to prepare your memory for the next day in class.
2.      DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!
-          Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and to stay focused during your study.
3.      EXERCISE
“Exercise help the memory in both DIRECT and INDIRECT ways” –Harvard Health Letter
-          ‘DIRECTLY’ is by reduce inflammation and it also helps our brain stimulate the growth of blood cell in the brain.
-          ‘INDIRECTLY’ by help you sleep better and reduce stress & anxiety.
4.      SALT LEVELS IN OUR BODY AFFECT YOUR MEMORY.
-          A lack of salt is going to hurt our memory.
-          A low level of salt in body may impede your ability to create new memories.
-          Too much salt will contribute to Alzheimer disease.
5.      AVOID EXCESSIVE SUGAR

-          Hippocampus is part of brain that is sensitive to sugar.
-          The function of hippocampus is used in learning, memory, and for long-term memory.

p/s; For this week I want to share a video about good habits that we all can practice!
